but for some reason, my speaking is lagging. there is no reason that I need to try to do something. I have been in U.S. it solved all my problems.
I never "tried" to improve my english because I think I am in U.S already and am in a english nature enviroment. (1) I bought this product just for a trial but it turned out very effectively. I couldNOT find why. you will see the progress and you will find that you are becoming more and more comfortable with your speaking. it will come to me naturally.
So i bought this product for a trial.(2) I just went through the first cd or more exactly just the first lesson. (4) all of all, it is a concept. for 8 years. As the author said: Accent is combination of intonation, liaisions and pronunciation. Yes.
I see it happened in my listening, my reading and my writing. the flow of the sentence is important than anything else.(3) try this product and then watch TV. the author brings us to a right track.
It is a great program that really helps non-native English speaking people in honing their communication skills.
I started few weeks ago, I don't see any changes in my accent yet, but I think it a very good start. I may need a personal lessons with speech specialist later, but may be not. This course is the good guide which direction to go, but you need spend lots of ours practicing. Good luck.
I therefore give a five star to American Accent Training. I am now aware of the difference between some sounds that, otherwise, would look the same to my ears.
I came from Africa. I've been living in America for 15 years.
I listen well and sound good. All these years I tried hard to learn English; but, despite my effort, each time I open my mouth, I am met with a "Where are you from.".
And the culprit is my heavy accent which makes it difficult for me to communicate with people I have to speak to.Since I've been taking American Accent Training, things have improved tremendously. By learning how to use intonations and how to make liaisons between words, I've made my accent less heavier, and my speech more understandable.
It's a great product.Francois Kaboya
So, I personally have a bad taste in my mouth - forgive the pun - that in the end I wasn't really shown how to use the book more effectively and which chapters to focus on with possible phone follow ups but that essentially it was to make a lot of money off each student by giving private coaching sessions. And with accent learning we all have unique problem tongue placement/ muscle issues that we may or may not be aware of as well as the ability to hear how we sound and how we ought to be sounding.
Then I found they had a 'helpline' with a small fee for assessment ($100). I had high hopes for this book and multiple c.ds.
Unfortunately, I am not a great DO IT YOURSELF book 'completer'. Thinking I could get assessed and use the book in a more particular way, working on my personal vocal issues.Anyway, very detailed in depth testing later, I am being told to do their online course/ phone course which averages to $100+ per hour session and they want a firm commitment that totals a minimum of $1200 for a 3 month course.
That I realize is a main bait of this book. Which makes accent learning a more personal problem than just how to say, learning to make an omelette.
However, if you are able to spend the money for the course I cannot give any personal knowledge of how effective the coaching is although, naturally, they give a great sales pitch.
